How to Upload Your Pre-Owned Inventory to YouTube in 4 Simple Steps

YouTube is one of the most heavily trafficked sites on the Internet and is the site for hosting video. YouTube is both powerful and free and a great place to highlight your pre-owned inventory. Some of the on-the-fly videos uploaded by ordinary folks get millions of views; some even beat the ratings of the most popular programs on television.

The following is a four-step workshop that takes you through the process of setting up a YouTube account, shooting your video, uploading it to YouTube, and managing your YouTube videos.

Step 1: Create a YouTube Account
Go to YouTube.com and click on the "Create Account" link on top right.

Fill in the details and click "I Accept".

Now you need to sign in with a Google Account - your Gmail email id and password will do. You can also create a new Google account by filling in the information on the right.

Click on "Customize your channel page" and then on "Settings" to quickly customize your YouTube page.

Enter a title and channel tags, and click on "Save Changes". Your YouTube Channel is now ready to accept videos!

Step 2 - Planning for the Shoot

You need a digital camcorder and a PC or Mac to create the You Tube Video. Videos can be even high-definition, but we recommend the " MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio" preferred by YouTube.

Open your Camcorder settings and set resolution to "640 X 460", video format to MPEG4, or Divx, or Xvid, and the audio format to MP3.

Now you are ready for the shoot! Before starting off, please make sure that the vehicles are in top shape, and you do a little planning of your tour.

YouTube accepts videos of up to 10 minutes duration, so plan for 8-10 minute clips to upload.

Lastly, make sure that there is enough light to shoot. If necessary, use a camcorder light to light up the areas you shoot.

Step 3 - Shooting the Cars
Switch on your Camcorder, and start recording. Make it a "Camcorder Tour", and talk in the same way you would talk to a customer. Keep the presentation gender neutral.

Step 4 - Uploading the Video
Once you are done with shooting, preview the work on the Camcorder itself, or transfer it to your PC/ Mac, using your Camcorder guidelines. Some basic editing can be done with software that are built into PCs (Windows Movie Maker) and Macs (iMovie).

Once you are done, log in to the YouTube account created before, and click on "Upload". In the new window, click on the "Upload Video" Button.

Locate and select the Video, and click "Open" - The Video upload should begin immediately.

Now add a Description to your video, add tags (think keywords ), select "Autos and Vehicles" as your category, set privacy to "Public", and click on "Save Changes". Copy the URL under sharing options to a new window to review the uploaded video.

You are done! Your pre-owned video is now on YouTube to MP3, available to anyone searching for used cars or car dealers. You can also use the URL to direct your prospects to the video, and embed the video on your website, Facebook page, etc.
